I teach a student-centered humanities course with an emphasis on social justice and human rights through historical fiction, biographies, autobiographies, poetry, science fiction novels, and graphic memoirs to inspire middle school students, while liaising with the colleagues across various curricular areas. I teach students writing and annotation strategies to model active reading and idea expansion. I communicate effectively and respectfully with all stakeholders regarding student growth and development. I also collaborate with colleagues of diverse backgrounds on pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment, and instructional strategies. I encourage students to engage in collaborative teamwork by communicating thoughtfully, justifying reasoning, and considering multiple perspectives.• Promoted use of multiple strategies for problem solving, identifying more efficient strategies, and generalizing principles to a broad variety of applications.• Conducted individual and small-group advisory sessions to discuss and develop emotional/behavioral strategies.• Mentored students through questioning and research strategies, encouraging them to explore cause and effect relationship, change and continuity in history, and information sourcing and corroborating.
