About Monica Balakrishnan
Student at Duke University pursuing pre-med track with Neuroscience and Political Science as focus. I am interested in public health, neurodegenerative diseases, and biology. While participating in cutting edge medical research and technology, I am an enthusiastic entrepreneur and a varsity athlete. I am a recipient of the Prestigious Presidential Service Gold Medal for volunteering with the Accelerators and Startups. Some of my entrepreneurial experiences include: TeensForVaccine- public health awareness campaign during Covid-19 to facilitate elderly people in taking vaccines, LimitlessMinds- free virtual tutoring for K-8 students by high achieving high schoolers. I have done extensive research on Alzheimer\'s with scientific data through lab experiments conducted on rats which can be used to create an app that progressively tests and monitors the patients with this degenerative disease. Furthering my research, now at Duke University, on Parkinson\'s disease.Excellent leadership, team building and coaching skills developed from participating in fencing tournaments, science tutoring and volunteering programs. Business entrepreneurship skills learnt from running non profit ventures.
