ABOUT MONDE MUYANGWA

Monde became Director of the Africa Program at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars in March 2014, an organization whose mission is to tackle global issues through independent research and open dialogue to inform actionable ideas. Monde brings to the Wilson Center: • Over 15 years of senior-level experience in US-Africa relations in government, education, and non-profit sectors. • Long-standing senior-level experience with translating policy related to African democracy and good goverannce, security, poverty and development into programs, goals and results. • Effective mid- to long-range strategic planning and program management skills. • Strong expertise in the areas of democracy, good governance, national security strategy planning, civil-military relations, security sector transformation, gender mainstreaming, poverty reduction, development, maritime safety and security, health, and conflict prevention and management. • Extensive experience building partnerships in support of democracy, security and development in Africa. • Extensive experience leading, organizing and managing programs, resources and staff, including over 12 years of leading the development, organization and evaluation of Africa-focused programs. • Signficant experience chairing, faciilitating and moderating ministerial-level programs and meetings. • Wide-ranging stakeholder outreach and relationship-building at senior levels in policy, academic and non-governmental sectors in Africa and the US, including engagement with African presidents, ministers, parliamentarians, chiefs of defense, army and air forces as well as academic and civil society leaders and organizations. • In-depth and broad socio-cultural and political knowledge of Africa gained from having lived in Africa for over 20 years, working African governance, development, security and education issues for over 25 years, and from having visited and conducted programs in more than 30 African countries.
