ABOUT MOLLY MURPHY

Senior nonprofit, documentary, and narrative change leader with 25+ years of experience driving organizational strategy, fundraising, and cross-sector partnerships at the intersection of independent non-fiction film, journalism, and civic engagement. Currently serves as Co-Executive Director with an emphasis in Partnerships & Innovation at Working Films, a national nonprofit leveraging documentary storytelling for social and environmental justice.Responsible for fundraising, institutional partnerships, external communications, field-building initiatives, and organizational management, with a track record of building and stewarding regional and national networks, raising multi-year institutional and individual revenue, and managing complex stakeholder relationships. Work centers on translating mission and strategic priorities into fundable initiatives with clear and measurable outcomes, and aligning development, program, and finance for long-term organizational sustainability.Leadership experience includes guiding organizations through growth, restructuring, and leadership transitions, and serving on executive leadership teams overseeing long-range planning and institutional partnerships. Known as a trusted intermediary connecting filmmakers, funders, and movement partners, and for helping seed and lead regional and national collectives, coalitions, and field-wide initiatives.Over the course of a career at Working Films that began in 2001 as the organization’s first full-time staff member, helped build the organization’s national engagement model from the ground up and contributed to defining the field of documentary impact before the role was formally named. Designed early film-driven organizing campaigns, facilitation models, and partnership strategies that are now widely adopted across the documentary impact ecosystem.
