ABOUT MOLLY BROWNE

I attended Fordham University for 3 and a half years, where I received a deeply rooted Jesuit, liberal arts education and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I found great interest in childhood psychology and the development of the young mind as it relates to personal and educational learning experiences. Fordham allowed me to discover myself and my passion for learning. I then served as a third grade teacher at St. Joseph School in Petersburg, Virginia, as a part of Notre Dame\'s Alliance for Catholic Education Program (ACE). This service commitment, through which I have earned my Master of Education degree, has expanded my professional development exponentially both as a student and educator. In addition to utilizing workshop methods and continuous assessment in the classroom, I was the teacher representative on the PTO, organized the school-wide talent show, and coached girls basketball. Upon graduation, I moved back to the northeast and worked at Harlem Children\'s Zone Promise Academy. I then moved on to Harlem Village Academies as a teacher and principal. I then moved to work at The Nightingale Bamford School, an all girls private school. I was attracted to the same sex education and working with young girls, fostering independence and finding student voice. In the classroom, my main focus is to blend reading and writing skills together to develop learners who analyze texts across genres and subjects aligned with Common Core. I work with other teachers and administrators within my school to find best practices. Combined with data analysis, I have learned to value a shift in responsibility between teacher to student. I hope to work in positions where I can be challenged and expand my own craft.I strive to create a cohesive classroom environment while getting to know my students\' strengths and weaknesses and expanding their own understanding of metacognition.
