Leadership:• Instructional Council and Building Leadership Team Elected Member: Design professional development opportunities for all staff and facilitate peer learning on anti-racist and anti-ableist teaching practices. • Mentor Teacher: Mentored UW Student Teacher (2020-21), Second-Year Social Studies Teacher (2021-22), and Pre-Service Teacher (20••••23).• ELL support lead for general education teachers: Provide ongoing professional development for 90+ general education teachers and para educators to better serve our ELL students using SIOP and other proven practices. Curriculum Design: • Advocate for integrated, whole-child, and community-centered approach to learning. Prioritize relationship-building and ground my teaching in students’ social and emotional needs and wellbeing. • Accelerate learning for students furthest from educational justice: Developed and taught Newcomer Pre-Algebra classes that resulted in students gaining upwards of four years’ worth of math proficiency in less than a year. Created a four-year curriculum for first-generation college-going students that has meaningfully altered their postsecondary trajectory and increased their sense of belonging in school.• Develop courses and student experiences that spark their passions and align with their sense of purpose. Co-created the City of Renton’s Youth Court, built partnerships with nonprofits, community leaders, City of Renton, apprenticeship pathways, and colleges and universities to create authentic project-based and problem-based curriculum. Teach over 400 students a year. Teaching Awards:• Recipient of Hazen’s Teacher Academy Teacher Award for my work to increase access, equity, and social justice in the classroom. • Nominated by students for Renton School District’s Secondary Teacher of the Year Award.
