About Rafael Martins de Moraes
I\'m a machine learning practitioner and product owner focused on bringing AI to large-scale satellite network operations. At Viasat, I lead the AIOps Enablement team within our Operations organization. My goal is to move beyond the basic monitoring and alerting that has historically dominated ops, and augment it with ML that can actually handle the complexity of vertically integrated satellite networks, and AI agents that help engineers navigate incidents faster. I own the roadmap, I\'m the ML/AI subject matter expert for the team, and I still build when the problem calls for it, while championing AI-assisted development as standard practice across the team.My background follows a clear thread: communications infrastructure. I started as a software engineer in the set-top box industry, earned a master\'s in Computer Science from NYU\'s Courant Institute, where my AI thesis advised by Professor Yann LeCun received the 2020 CS Master\'s Thesis Prize, and have spent the last six years at Viasat moving from Data Scientist to my current role.Outside of my core work, I find myself drawn to how AI adoption and new developments play out across different industries, and the recurring patterns in how organizations get it right or wrong. I always enjoy exchanging ideas with people working on similar challenges.
