Initiated Canada’s humanitarian eye care response to the war in Ukraine.As the COS Foundation’s inaugural initiative, we generated 1 million dollars’ worth of medical and surgical equipment for front-line ophthalmologists in Ukraine. Assembled a team of ophthalmologic sub-specialists on standby for telemedicine consultation. Lobbied provincial governments for programming, resources and to support Ukrainian evacuees in Canada.Organized international participation in a series of war trauma symposia for ophthalmic surgeons to share surgical techniques in open forum. Collaborated with members of the Ukrainian Vitreoretinal Society, AAO, ASOPRS, ESCRS, Moorfields, and Polish ophthalmologists as part of a global ophthalmologic response network in response to this humanitarian crisis.
