About Michael Barnes
At Bristol Myers Squibb, I lead a team focused on cancer immunology drug development. My team works to discover and develop biologic and small molecule therapeutics to improve T cell-mediated immune responses in patients with solid tumors.I have led and managed multiple internal and external research projects in the oncology portfolio at BMS. I am passionate about science, initiating and leading innovative research programs, and making novel contributions to the field of cancer immunology.

I lead a team of lab based scientists (both PhD and non PhD) with an aim to discover and develop therapeutics that modulate T cell function using small molecules (inhibitors, molecular glues, and PROTACs) or biologics (T cell engagers, and monoclonal and bi-specific antibodies). As a cross-functional team project co-leader, I led both BMS-986449 (Helios CELMoD) and BMS-986482 from early discovery through Phase 1 clinical trials. My team and I also contribute to internal discovery platform development. We augment our internal work with several academic and contract research organization collaborative programs.
