About Michael Janairo

As a college art museum administrator, I apply lessons I\'ve learned throughout my career to ensure students, faculty, artists, visitors, and my colleagues have meaningful experiences in the galleries every day.As a reporter, I\'ve learned to listen with care: You never know what a source, employee, artist, student, or visitor will tell you.As a writer and editor, I\'ve learned you can find stories everywhere because most people want to share their stories. Capturing those stories is important; so, too, is finding their audience.As a supervisor and manager, I\'ve learned to respect the stories each employee tells about their own life. In doing so, I am better equipped to help them achieve success in their own work and feel connected to the larger team.As a college writing instructor, I\'ve learned to focus on where a student\'s word choices falter and sentence structures break down. This isn\'t to correct a student, but to begin an exploration to see if something interesting is happening—an attempt to break from received language and ideas to express something new.Something similar happens in museums when visitors encounter unfamiliar objects of contemporary art. Mystery, memory, and ideas converge in a process of making meaning that can change what we know about an object and expand people\'s perceptions about everything around them. My job is to help make such experiences happen and to share stories of how art can transform the world.
