About Mitchell Overmyer

With over ten years of experience in animal care and conservation, I am passionate about protecting endangered species and promoting their welfare. As an African Penguin SSP Steering Committee Member at the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, I collaborate with other zoos and aquariums to ensure the genetic diversity and sustainability of the penguin population. I also contribute to the research, education, and advocacy efforts of AZA to raise awareness and support for penguin conservation. As an Animal Care Supervisor at the Fort Wayne Zoo, I oversee a team of 8 while providing daily care and enrichment for a variety of aquatic animals, including penguins, sea lions, otters, and alligators, harbor seals, stingrays, sharks, and a variety of reef fish. I am certified as a level 2 Life Support Operator and a level 1 Water Quality Technician by AALSO. I have developed skills in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, and time management, and I am always eager to learn new things and improve my practice. I am proud to be part of the AZA and FWCZ teams, and share their mission of connecting people with nature and inspiring them to care for the animals that are a part of it. I am looking for opportunities to expand my network, enhance my knowledge, and advance my career in the field of animal care and conservation.
