ABOUT MITCHELL ADAMSON

Mitchell currently works at the BC Cancer agency in Victoria, BC as a research associate under the supervision of Dr. Brad Nelson. His research observes the use of Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cells and their use in cancer treatments. He works with various cell models and experimental animal models. Mitchell is a Master of Science graduate from the Faculty of IMS at the University of Toronto. Previously, Mitchell worked as a heart failure researcher within the University Health Network/Peter Munk Cardiac Centre. He has several research projects which focus on both Ex situ heart perfusion (ESHP) to improve transplant outcomes and improving outcomes for patients with Cardiac Amyloidosis. Mitchell\'s research also observes HLA-G and other immune checkpoint molecules in the generation, diagnosis and treatment of post transplant malignancy. He works on multiple side projects including the use of an ESHP system which aims at determining the viability of donation after circulatory death (DCD) to increase the number of viable organs for transplant and improve patient outcomes. Here he performs heart transplantations in a porcine model, which involves performing advanced surgical techniques, and managing complex patients.Additionally, Mitchell is an Emergency Medical Responder at the University of Western Ontario with the Student Emergency Response Team (SERT). SERT is an internationally recognized student organization providing emergency medical response to 9-1-1 call at Western University. We provide service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are dispatched through the Campus Community Police Service (CCPS) to any medical emergency on-campus, responding in three person co-ed teams.
