About Mitchell Lucas
With over 10 years of work experience in plant and animal genetics, I am passionate about applying genetics to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability. As a Genetics Director at American Penaeid, I led the commercial shrimp breeding program, established a state-of-the-art lab, and provided contract genetic testing and analyses. At American Penaeid, I was responsible for developing ‘Dragon’ and ‘High Vigor’ SPF Broodstock, the most advanced and disease-resistant shrimp lines in the industry. I also implemented high-throughput DNA extraction and SNP genotyping methods, and performed diversity analyses and germplasm management to optimize the genetic potential and performance of the shrimp. Additionally, I leveraged my previous experience as a Breeding Project Lead at Syngenta, where I worked on hybrid sweet pepper breeding for arid open-field production environments, and coordinated international nurseries and technology projects.
