As an instructor, my role is to teach cadets the technical skills required for police work through a variety of teaching methods including the use of digital media, hands on scenario based training, lecture, and skill testing through written and observation techniques.Instructor for multiple blocks of instruction to include- Firearms - classroom training and range time, firearm safety, shooting skills, malfunction drills, combat course effectiveness, use of cover and concealment, support hand shooting, use of duty gear, flashlight techniques, low light shooting- Techniques of Traffic Law Enforcement - for vehicle traffic stops, issuing citations, suspect vehicle approach, and known risk traffic stops (felony stop)- Patrol Techniques – for a patrol officer to learn approaches, interviewing techniques, detainment/apprehension of suspects, situational awareness, contact and cover officer tactics- In Custody Transportation – discuss and practice techniques for the patrol officer regarding placing a suspect in a patrol vehicle. Includes vehicle searching and documentation of contraband, searching and cuffing of the suspect, commitment orders, and arrest form procedures- Domestic Violence – for the patrol officers to respond to highly volatile domestic situations, learn interview techniques, situational awareness, suspect detainment and arrest- Crowd Management – the procedures for dealing with crowds, protests, riots, the use of the riot baton, riot gear, tear gas, and extraction techniques with the use of a vehicle- Rapid Deployment – active threat response in a situation where immediate action is required, room entry, room clearing, stairway movement, tactical team approaches, officer down, removal or triage of the injured- Assisted with the instruction of 150+ law enforcement students- Dedicated over 500 hours of instruction time
