About Mitali Parekh

After 24 years as a journalist with newspapers and magazine, I am now an entrepreneur with GoodDog! Canine Services, which offers training, behaviour modification, aggression solutions, assessment and training of dogs for therapy work; and my favourite bit — customised treks and hikes for dogs as a behavioural solution.I also work with Shirin Merchant (India’s pioneering canine behaviourst) at her training institute, conceptualising business plans, assisting on courses, supporting her social media and focusing on community building. I undertook a basic dog training course under Shirin Merchant in 2010 to write a column for Mumbai Mirror (PetPuja) responsibly. Subsequently, I further studied canine behaviour, aggression and therapy work.Since April 2021, I have been Consulting Editor with Sunday mid-day. Until October 2019, I was a Senior Assistant Editor with the daily broadsheet DNA and worked on the front pages of all its editions. My longest stint in the newsroom has been for seven years with Mumbai Mirror (2006 to 2012)—I served on its news desk, as a columnist for three columns on varied subjects and in the Features department.I also work on books: I have written an authorised biography and ghost-written a couple others (self-help and short stories). I also handhold other authors and scriptwriters, guiding their thought process, helping with plots and frameworks, cheerleading the process and finding the right publisher.To start, like Alice, at the very beginning, I have been a columnist, copy-editor, writer and content builder since the year I write news features about popular culture, food, fashion, animal rights and welfare, gender issues, lifestyle and travel. My work has been featured in Mumbai and Pune Mirrors, Femina, Elle, Harper\'s Bazaar, Grazia, Caravan, Forbes Life, The Guardian, Mid-day, Hindu Businessline, Brunch (Hindustan Times), Mint, NatGeo Traveller, Scroll.in and FirstPost.com. As a columnist, I wrote about street shopping (CoolHunter for Mumbai Mirror), pet rights, care and welfare (PetPuja, Mumbai and Pune Mirror) and what the costumes of a movie say (Costume Drama in Mumbai Mirror and First Post).I currently commission stories, ideate content, curate columnists, drive contributor-fed spaces and edit pieces on gender, LGBTQ, sexuality and male vulnerability for the Sexuality page in DNA. I also edit and anchor Page One for the Delhi and Mumbai editions, along with ideating, editing and executing special advertisment driven supplements for the brand.
