ABOUT SHEELAN MIRZA

Hi! I am an epidemiologist by training, currently serving as a Clinical Research Coordinator and Data Analyst with the Vidal Melo Lab at Columbia University. I am deeply invested in the promotion of health justice at the population and community levels; my research interests lie in the intersection of genetics & genomics, environmental health, and social & behavioral health. My current work investigates sex-based disparities in postoperative pulmonary complications after surgery. My background includes surveillance research, community engagement, accessible scientific writing and education, and qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. My previous projects have investigated infectious disease prevention, behavioral research, and disparities in the clinical utility of genetic risk prediction methods for chronic disease. I hope to aid in bridging the gap between public health and clinical research and practice in order to reduce health disparities and improve population health, especially within marginalized communities. Feel free to reach out to me at s•••••••@alumni.jh.edu!
