Experience
Supervising Mechanical Engineer
May 2005 — Present · Denver, CO, US
I lead mechanical design in the DOE/DOD complex, oil and gas, industrial process, and power industries. My projects have ranged from 250 million dollar capital improvement to small plant retrofits. Recently I lead a group of twenty mechanical engineers and designers in creating a chemical weapons disposal facility at the Blue Grass Army Depot. My group was responsible for site layout including a sqft. building, mechanical utility systems, specialty HVAC systems, process piping, and coordination with fire protection system designers. Previously I pioneered the extensive use of Hydraulic Transience Analysis (HTA) in the design of a radioactive waste treatment facility. The team of nine engineers that I built and lead provided a detailed analysis of all critical lines in the facility. We also developed cutting-edge procedures to allow for cavitation in the design. I successfully lead a multi-office team of Pipe Stress Engineers as a part of a 220 million dollar gas fractionation expansion project with team members located in three US states and Europe. I reduced pipe stress expenditures by 15% from previous projects. I traveled to the Arctic Circle to walk down and measure existing equipment, outdoors in extreme arctic conditions at a well pad site on Alaska’s north slope and lead preliminary design for the expansion of that site. The client’s satisfaction with our work contributed to our company winning the detailed design phase of the project beating out two other major EPC firms. My technical skills include-Plant layout (AutoCAD)-Utility system design and P & ID development (AFT Fathom & Arrow)-Hydraulic transient analysis and waterhammer abatement design (AFT Impulse, Bently Hammer)-Pipe stress analysis & support design (Caesar II, AutoPIPE, Nozzle Pro)-Process piping design (Plant3D)-Member of the ASME B31 Code Comity-3D modeling and FEA (Creo & Creo Simulate)-Procurement support, and fabrication specs
