About Miranda Hill Jones

Dr. Miranda Hill Jones is passionate about transformative education and knowledge - from getting and giving it. This passion began in her youth at 9 years old when she discovered her next door neighbor died of a heroin drug overdose. This tragedy caused her to read all types of literature on drugs and addiction in an effort to figure out why certain drugs and substances were so powerful to cause death. Then five years later, her father was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer resulting in several treatments with medications, chemotherapy, radiation and surgeries. She became so fascinated with the action of drugs that she decided she had to study pharmacology. It was those two tragic events that inspired her to become a pharmacist. Today, Dr. Miranda Hill Jones serves as a clinical community pharmacist, health educator, and drug information director at Metro Drug Information Services, Inc. a community based non-profit charitable organization serving Ann Arbor - Ypsilanti and Southeastern Michigan. She is passionate about educating patients on the safe and proper use of medications to help prevent potential dangers from drug-drug interactions with prescription drugs and over the counter medications and other substances. She is the author of \"Opioid Drug and Alcohol Abuse - What Parents Need to Know\" and \"A Children\'s Book on Drugs and Alcohol with Dr. Miranda.\" Dr. Miranda Hill Jones has served in the pharmacy profession in multiple capacities ranging from hospital pharmacy practice ( Sinai-Grace Hospital, Children\'s Hospital of Michigan, Rhode Island Hospital and Sparrow Hospital). She has served in pharmaceutical pharmacy practice at Bristol Meyers Squibb Company and Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company as a Medical Information Product Specialist (MIPS). In 2003 to present, she began service in community pharmacy practice at CVS, Kmart and Kroger Pharmacy. In 2014, she was appointed as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy and as a preceptor. Dr. Miranda Hill Jones has served in academia as an associate professor and director of drug information at Hampton School of Pharmacy and Texas Southern University. As a professor, I have taught, trained and mentored pharmacy students, technicians and pharmacists. Dr. Jones is a licensed attorney in private practice in the State of Michigan. As a dual practitioner, pharmacy and law I value the use of collaborative skills sets in problem solving and program development. In summary, I believe in community and find that giving back to others is rewarding.
