ABOUT MINNA NILANONT
Minna Nilanont, M.Ed is currently adjunct professor of English composition and English literature at Prince George\'s Community College with over ten years of of teaching and personal academic study. Her collaborative efforts, faculty trainings, papers, and presentations focus on metacognition, transformative education through critical pedagogy, alternative reading/learning strategies, and visual literacy. Collaborating with the library, Prof. Nilanont presents Symbols and Text, a provocative and high-interest alternative literacy program that examines the many dimensions of meaning in images with words in contemporary society. My current interest is fostering community and family literacy through innovative programs and partnerships with schools and libraries. The world is the best classroom for truly transformative education. Living consciously, thinking critically, and striving for social justice are the skills students and citizens need today and tomorrow. We must awaken within ourselves and others a higher purpose and search out the knowledge we need in order to grow and make positive change.
