A line from one of my favorite movies, “The Pursuit of Happiness” encapsulates my approach to a successful career: “Don\'t let anyone tell you that you can\'t do something …If you have a dream, go get it.” In an early role, I shared my desire to move into recruiting and HR with my manager. He responded, “You don’t have a chance.” and listed various reasons for his opinion.Undaunted, I left the naysayer’s organization and relocated to a new city a month later. Landing an unpaid HR internship, I parlayed that position into a full-time recruiting role within the first month.Building on my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, I earned a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification while accepting promotions to roles of increased authority and accountability with several hospitality industry organizations.
