About Mingyo Mika Kang
Growing up in Seoul, Dubai, and Sydney, I have experienced diverse cultures, people, and traditions, which have fueled my creativity and broadened my perspective. I\'ve always been an innovator at heart, and I love applying my creativity to engineering solutions that improve lives.At Rice University, where I am majoring in Bioengineering, I am passionate about designing medical devices that enhance patient outcomes. My interest in biomaterials grew after taking a biomaterials course, leading me to join the IDEAS Lab under the guidance of renowned orthopedic oncologist Dr. Bird. In this role, I focus on designing spinal implants that reduce infection risks and improve integration for patients undergoing reconstructive surgery.I am deeply interested in the field of oncology and aspire to become an orthopedic oncologist, with the long-term goal of pursuing a business venture in biomaterials innovation.Beyond my academic and professional pursuits, I find joy in birdwatching. As one of the founding members of the Rice Student Birding Club, I lead bird walks on Friday afternoons around campus. These moments of connection with nature bring me immense peace and inspiration.
