About Mindy Wadley
I\'m a survivor.\" When I was 19 years old, having graduated high school with all A\'s and enrolled at my dream college (University of Georgia - Go Dawgs!), I got pregnant and dropped out. I got married and found myself in an abusive relationship with few financial resources. But I escaped. I survived domestic abuse, got divorced, worked my way through college (Augusta University - Go Jags!) and found my calling in the communications field as a television news associate producer at WAGT. My first EP immediately recognized my writing talent and my tenacity and taught me how to produce. I quickly took over the weekend morning newscast.\"I\'m not gon\' give up.\" When I graduated college at 27, with a 7-year-old and 18 months of producing experience, I landed my first post-collegiate job as a producer at WCIV in Charleston, South Carolina. Despite being away from home for the first time as a single mother, I continued to learn more about my career, from breaking news to time management to forging network connections. I was also fighting a tempestuous and unseen battle with mental illness. I worked long and hard to provide for myself and my child. During my time in Charleston, tragedy struck with the senseless slaughter of nine parishioners at Mother Emanuel AME, killed while they studied the Bible because of the color of their skin. The lessons I learned in the aftermath: forgiveness. Community. Resiliency. I will never forget the impact the people of the Holy City had on my heart.\"I\'m not gon\' stop.\" I returned to my hometown of Augusta, Georgia, where I produced the 5 p.m. news at WRDW. Each step in my producer journey taught me more about how to be creative, how to share vital information with our viewers, how to fully embed myself into the community I call home. Always ready for more challenges, I helmed the launch of our 5:30 p.m. newscast before moving to produce the 6 p.m. show. I wrote stories for our digital platforms and created engaging posts for Facebook and Instagram. I expanded my network to forge relationships and sources across a variety of fields, including hospitality, medical, law enforcement, military, education, finance and more.\"I\'m gon\' work harder.\" Since moving to Jacksonville, I have worked my way to my current role as the 6 p.m. producer at WTLV/WJXX, following a stint as a digital content producer. I won an Emmy award for my team\'s coverage of the sentencing in another tragedy: the murder of 13-year-old Tristyn Bailey. And every day, I look for new challenges to take on. I\'m not just a survivor. I\'m here to thrive.
