About Mina Jung
How can we generate meaningful insights from big data generated from the 86 billion neurons of the human brain? To answer this question, I aim to integrate mathematical theory and experimental data from biological systems to optimize deep learning models so that they are less of \"black boxes\" and are more of a tool with comprehensible insight into what is happening in the brain. Currently, I\'m exploring both macroscopic datasets (obtained through EEG) and microscopic datasets (generated from cortical organoids), with the ultimate goal of studying psychiatric disorders by integrating both approaches.
Experience
Provost Research Fellow for Precog Study
Brain And Creativity Institute
Aug 2023 — Present · Los Angeles, CA, US
Collected and monitored EEG, EOG, EKG, GSR, and 3-D spatial data from 160 participants for study on pre-conscious biosignals of depression and suicidal ideation in college students. Received 2-time consecutive funding via USC\'s Provost Fellowship to lead independent project that improved neural fingerprinting of resting-state EEG data and identify neural correlates of depression and suicidality under mentorship of Dr. Takfarinas Medani.Presented at 2025 USC Undergraduate Research Symposium.
Education
