ABOUT MILLY CARMICHAEL

Me now: Facilitating creative and joyful introductions to permaculture and nature-inspired designs for life for people of all ages. Since 2018, I have co-facilitated Think Like A Tree courses with author Sarah Spencer and a growing national network of facilitators, and introduced many people to permaculture through my own workshops and through involvement with my local Transition Town initiative. I\'m involved with various voluntary activities in my local community around food, gardening and nourishing ourselves with re-considered \'waste\' resources, and have unpaid directorships in two inspiring CICs and a trusteeship in my local Landscape Trust. Me fairly recently: Five years of Public Health work (including MSc study and graduation) with a focus on household food insecurity. My background: general nursing with most clinical experience based around sexual health, substance use, homelessness and occupational health. Co-directing a training and consultancy partnership from 2011 to 2020 alongside a small group of skilled and experienced associate trainers: offering training events, workforce development and PSHE activities for statutory, voluntary & private sector organisations and public access events of our own. Our offer evolved, over time, from child and adolescent mental health, sexual and relationship health, and substance use to broader skills around communication and systems thinking which underpinned all our other practice. My key tools have become Compassionate Communication, Solution Focus and the Ethics and Design Principles of Permaculture as my core framework.
