ABOUT JEREMY MILLER
When a business owner goes through a divorce, the stakes are different. The marital estate is not just a house and a retirement account. It is an operating company, a contested valuation, a question of enterprise versus personal goodwill, and sometimes an appeal. That is the work I do at Pearson Butler. I am a Utah family law attorney with 18 years of experience handling high-asset divorce cases where a business is on the table. I take cases from the initial filing through trial, and through the Utah Court of Appeals when the outcome warrants it. I understand business valuation methodology, entity structures, and the appellate vulnerabilities that arise when courts get valuations wrong at the trial level. My background is unusual for a family law attorney. I hold a master\'s degree from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University in business management, economics, and organizational behavior, and I have served as general counsel for a healthcare technology startup. I understand how businesses are built, how they are valued, and what is actually at stake when one becomes the central dispute in a divorce proceeding. When an opposing expert presents a valuation, I engage with it at a level most family law attorneys cannot. If you are a Utah business owner navigating a divorce, or a transactional attorney, CPA, or financial advisor who occasionally encounters clients in that situation, I would welcome a conversation.
