ABOUT MILIND PARIWAKAM

I am a wildlife biologist and conservationist with 20 years of experience setting up and running conservation programs. Previously, I have worked for 6 years with various corporates in the field of sales and marketing management.I have successfully led a 15-year long advocacy campaign to protect our wildlife corridors from the threat of linear infrastructure development and have assisted multiple civil society organizations in this effort. My efforts have led to the creation of India\'s first purpose-built mitigation structure for wildlife and the world\'s largest such mitigation structure for wildlife to cross roads safely. My work has directly impacted the conservation of at least 7 corridors in the Central Indian Landscape with at least 50 separate animal underpasses under construction and has had a national impact with over 85 examples of the negative impacts of roads across the country being mitigated. My diverse work experience over the years has been in carnivore population estimation, human-tiger conflict mitigation, species re-introduction, legal, policy and advocacy, fundraising, NGO finance, and project management. Some of the successful projects that I have initiated/been involved with since inception are Human Tiger Conflict Mitigation in Uttar Pradesh, Cheetah Reintroduction, Save Our Tigers, USAID-Tiger Matters. I have helped raise over 1.25 million USD directly through the project proposals that I have written over the last 5 years. During my decade-long association with the Wildlife Conservation Trust, I have played an instrumental role in transforming the organization from a funding support agency to a multi-dimensional research-based conservation action organization. I started and set up WCT\'s Central India Programme.
