In college, I primarily studied English poetry and spent most of my free time thinking about philosophy of language and dance. Later, in graduate school, I focused on spectroscopy and condensed matter physics. The people who have had the greatest impact on my thinking, thus far, include Sakichi Toyoda, Gottfried von Leibniz, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Donald Davidson, Helen Frankenthaler, and Charles Mingus. Today, I spend most of my time making very small structures with large machines. My motto is “If it can be built, we will build it, if it can’t, we’ll try anyway.”
