ABOUT MILA ROMANOFF
As a digital policy leader and key advocate within government, diplomatic, and private industries, Mila has over 10 years of global leadership in Data and AI Governance. She has led transformative global policy development at the United Nations as one of the key experts in emerging data and AI regulatory and policy issues. During her time with the UN, she successfully drafted the first UN enterprise framework of policies regarding data privacy and digital ethics formally adopted by the United Nations as well as co-led the development and implementation of the data protection pillar of the first UN Data Strategy. She brings a core level of expertise and focus on AI, emerging technologies, and global policy development from a humanitarian and development viewpoint. Several key achievements include:• Established reputation for coordinating with more than 20 United Nations groups, private industry, global governments, and key partners in furthering global, regional, and national data policies on data sharing, including with the EU and the World Health Organization• Leadership of agreement among more than 30 UN agencies regarding principles on Privacy for COVID-19 data sharing.• Numerous speaking engagements as a key presenter and representative for the United Nations at global conferences and working groups, including Global Privacy Assembly, IAPP, IGF, World Data Forum• Demonstrated thought leadership on AI, Human Rights, and Humanitarian Action.• Strategic advice on data and AI regulatory affairs to the governments in the Global South, leading to the adoption of Data Protection legislation and AI national strategies.• Extensive legal and data privacy background with expertise in the negotiation of high-level and complex agreements with top tech companiesIn addition to her expertise in global data policy and law, MIla is admitted to practice law in New York and has two LL.M. degrees from Pace University in Comparative International Law and Environmental Law.
