ABOUT MIKKO ERKAMAA
Michael “Mikko” Erkamaa joined Grandbridge Real Estate Capital as a vice president after BB & T’s purchase of Collateral Real Estate Capital and its subsequent merger with Laureate Capital in November 2007. Prior to the formation of Grandbridge, Mr. Erkamaa was a director and an award-winning production officer with Collateral. Before joining Collateral, he served as a vice president with L.J. Melody & Company from 2001 though 2003. While at L.J. Melody, Mr. Erkamaa originated and placed construction and permanent loans for clients nationwide. Prior to joining L.J. Melody in 2001, he spent two years with Captec Net Lease Realty, a publicly traded REIT based in Ann Arbor, Mich, as a regional vice president where his responsibilities included locating and acquiring single-tenant net leased real estate as well as the placement of debt and the formation of joint ventures with developers in need of capital. Working first as an associate before progressing to vice president, Mr. Erkamaa also worked for the Principal Life Insurance Company from 1994 until At Principal, he initially managed a portfolio of troubled loans and handled workouts, deed in lieu’s and foreclosures of commercial real estate. In 1995, he accepted a position as a commercial real estate loan originator specializing in the origination, placement and closing of loans as well as the acquisition of sale/leaseback and developer-built single-tenant net leased properties. Mr. Erkamaa was consistently a top producer at Principal throughout his career.Born in Pori, Finland, Mr. Erkamaa was raised in southeast Iowa in the town of Sigourney. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1994 from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He is a member of the ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) and is a licensed loan solicitor in Wisconsin.Specialties: Debt and Equity financing of multiple property types including industrial, office, retail, hotel, multifamily. Extensive experience in financing and purchasing all types of sale/leaseback, and developer-built single-tenant net leased properties. To date, he has originated and closed more than $1.5 billion in debt transactions and has facilitated the acquisition of commercial real estate properties worth more than $150 million.
