ABOUT MIKE MOFFATT

My current area of research is on Canada\'s housing supply and affordability crisis. I have authored or co-authored many research reports, made hundreds of media appearances from TVO\'s The Agenda to CBC\'s The National and given hundreds of keynote addresses and panel appearances. All three orders of government have cited our team\'s work which has led to several public policy changes.Before housing, I focused on the intersection of regional economic policy, innovation, and environmental policy, particularly manufacturing. Our housing work is an extension of that focus - firms can only attract and retain the talent they need if workers can afford to live in the community.I particularly enjoy communicating complex ideas in accessible ways, both through my think-tank roles and my work with the Globe and Mail, Rogers Communications, and About.com.Before joining SPI, I was the Government of Canada\'s first-ever \"Chief Innovation Fellow,\" advising on the design and implementation of Canada\'s Innovation Agenda. My role was to advise Deputy Ministers on innovation policy and emerging trends, providing an essential link to other leading economic thinkers.I have also served in the following roles:• Member, Canadian Environment Domestic Advisory Group (CEDAG) member for the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)• Member, Task Force on Affordability and Climate• Member, Task Force For a Resilient Recovery• Member, Minister of Agriculture\'s Advisory Committee on Trade for the Government of Ontario• Vice-chair, City of London Council Compensation Review Task Force• Member, City of London Economic Partnership Advisory Panel• Member, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau\'s non-partisan Economic Council of Advisors In 2023, I was named one of the most influential people in Ontario real estate, and in 2014 I was named to London, Ontario\'s 20 Under 40.
