ABOUT MICHAEL OSTROM

My career can be summarized succinctly as a \"solution oriented team leader adept at utilizing technology to solve real challenges.\" I started my career working with data and never stopped. Climbing my way through the post-collegiate world, I have spent a great deal of time solving business problems using analytics, business intelligence and some real tech-savvy solutions. In 2017, I switched roles out of BI to focus on Data Governance. It was a natural transition for me from a role in which I prepared data, and exemplified the responsibility that went with doing so, to safeguarding and protecting our data while promoting a culture of data awareness and responsibility.Data is our most important asset, second to our human resources. We need to ensure that we, as data citizens, understand the importance of data, how to use it properly, what safeguards need to be in place, what is proper and legally allowed, and how we can operate under a control umbrella that both guides us the right way while ensuring appropriate use of the data. Executed effectively, Data Governance acts as an engine for innovation rather than a bureaucratic hurdle. It empowers producers and consumers to manage their ecosystems seamlessly, shifting the focus from \'compliance burden\' to \'value creation.\' This cultural evolution ensures we deliver high-impact solutions while instinctively safeguarding our data, our reputation, and our brand.
