ABOUT MIKEL PETTY

Mikel D. Petty is currently a Principal Research Scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville\'s Information Technology and Systems Center. In May 2023 he retired as Professor of Computer Science at UAH, and in June 2023 he was designated Professor Emeritus. He served as Director of UAH\'s Center for Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis for ten years. Prior to joining UAH, he was Chief Scientist at Old Dominion University’s Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center and Assistant Director at the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Simulation and Training. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida in 1997. Dr. Petty has worked in modeling and simulation research and development since 1990 in areas that include verification and validation methods, simulation interoperability and composability, human behavior modeling, multi-resolution simulation, cybersecurity modeling, and simulation software frameworks. He has published over 260 research articles, chapters, and papers and has been awarded over $18 million in research funding. He served on National Research Council and National Science Foundation committees on modeling and simulation, is a Certified Modeling and Simulation Professional, and for five years was Editor-in-Chief of the scholarly journal SIMULATION: Transactions of the Society for Modeling and Simulation International. He served as dissertation advisor to seventeen graduated Ph.D. students in four different academic disciplines: Modeling and Simulation, Computer Science, Industrial and Systems Engineering, and Computer Engineering. His former students include the first two students to receive Ph.D.s in Modeling and Simulation at Old Dominion University and the first five students to receive Ph.D.s in Modeling and Simulation at UAH.
