ABOUT MIKE ZAJMALOWSKI
Mike has 20 years of experience in the power and natural gas industry covering areas like commodity trading, power system planning, enforcement & compliance. Mike has traded physical and financial power and natural gas at Ontario Power Generation and TransCanada Energy Ltd, and has provided consulting services for Deloitte & Touche LLP in the field of Energy Trading Risk Management. Mike has also gained experience in short term and long term power system planning in Ontario and most recently as an Investigator in the Market Assessment & Compliance Division at the IESO. Mike has significant experience in energy market design/operation, transacting, market and operational risk management, settlements & derivative accounting for generation and trading companies, utilities, marketers and government agencies. Mike has extensive experience in the development of policies and procedures across the front, middle and back office including corporate risk management policies and regulatory policies. From a power system planning perspective, Mike was responsible for assessing whether the system operability needs were met given the need to integrate renewables onto the system as well as assessing how energy storage, interconnected transactions, dispatch flexibility, ancillary services, etc. could better incorporated onto the electric system. Most recently Mike managed a team in the Market Assessment Compliance Division at the IESO that were responsible for monitoring and analyzing market participant behaviour related to compliance with the market rules, as well as executing on Real Time Generation Cost Guarantee audits. Mike most recently joined the team at Northland Power Inc as their new Director of Market Compliance & Integration. Specialties: market and reliability compliance, enforcement, energy (power and natural gas) trading risk management, power plant modeling, settlements, contracts, energy storage, demand response and operability.
