ABOUT MIKE VENABLES

I am a highly effective and experienced Non-Executive Director, Trustee and Management Consultant who has worked successfully in the government, private and charity sectors for the last 10 years. I have worked on public sector Boards, as a Trustee of several charities and providing strategic and bid advice to major blue chip companies successfully bidding for government business. I have specific and detailed Non-Executive expertise in public and charitable sector governance, risk and finance, serving on government Agency and Charity Management Boards. My work on bid development has focused on senior level strategic advice covering bid strategies and positioning, commercial and financial issues and project management and delivery approaches. This work is founded in my 27-year high profile career in central government, focussed on high level public policy, strategy development, planning and budgeting, and project management I moved to the consulting sector in 2013. Since then I have successfully translated these skills in to the commercial world. I have in depth experience of performance and risk management, government finance and PFIs. I am well versed in developing and leading change initiatives, mentoring teams to develop vision and strategy and designing effective business solutions and plans. As a Senior Civil Servant in the Ministry of Defence I held a wide range of Director appointments in the policy, procurement, legal, and management spheres. I served in Kosovo and Afghanistan, in both cases negotiating the initial entry of NATO forces, and I also held a range of finance, personnel and project management roles. My specific responsibilities included the management of MOD’s £32Bn annual budget, acting as Secretary to the Defence Management Board and the Defence Audit Committee, project managing a £5Bn procurement competition and handling Judicial Reviews relating to Iraq and inquests into service deaths.I was appointed OBE in
