The 2022 Oklahoma Broadband Expansion Act created the Oklahoma Broadband Office (OBO) as a new state agency, with a June 2028 sunset date. The mission of the OBO during this short period is to close the digital divide for the thousands in our state who are unserved or underserved by high-speed internet. The OBO is tasked with working to administer specific federal funding programs to reach its mission and serve these locations. In 2024, more than $500 million in grants were awarded by the OBO to expand the infrastructure necessary to connect homes and businesses to fast and reliable internet. By the end of 2025 the OBO anticipates this total to be over a billion dollars.
