ABOUT MIKE REDONDO

In today’s polarized culture, citizens do not communicate well or regularly enough. The art of respectful conversation is nearly extinct. Modern fundraising is one of the last mediums for truly productive communication. I once heard that “If you get close enough to a person, you can hear their heartbeat.” Relationship-based campaigns require personal communication that is not just the future of successful fundraising, but perhaps one of the last hopes for civilization. Mastering this unique craft and facilitating such important dialogue has become a personal mission of mine in recent years. In a society desperately trying to keep up with the need for direct social services, preventive programs are often not made a priority. Furthermore, prosocial programs like Scouting are dismissed because their true impact is immeasurable. Most preventive services are responding to imminent danger, but Scouting empowers youth and families to thrive in the face of adversity, avoiding risk altogether. Scouting teaches young people character, family values, independent life skills, and respectful relationships. This program changed my life, and I strive to see all youth equipped with the timeless tools that forge happiness and bring success. There are three jobs that prepared me well for this important work. As a freelance stage manager for theater and opera, I facilitated collaboration on dozens of impactful stories for audiences across the country. Between production contracts, I worked as a rideshare driver for Uber and Lyft. This fun and rewarding networking opportunity reminded me that if we just take a few minutes to get to know someone, we’ll find that there is much more that unites us than divides us. Finally, as District Executive (and later District Director) for the Boy Scouts of America, I shared and listened to testimonies which made it clear that every passion can be connected to a facet of Scouting programs.Until we as a community decide to stop reacting and start LEADING, we will continue to experience growing need for direct services and irresponsible use of donor funding to grow the supply. Join the conversation about how we BREAK THE CYCLE in the movement to save the world!
