About Mike Radtke
I previously served in different healthcare leadership roles over 15 years, including improvement facilitator, ancillary services manager, director of diagnostic imaging, and operational vice president. My clinical training and practice is in physical therapy, graduating from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. I also hold a master’s degree in Organizational Change Leadership (OCL) with an emphasis on Project Management from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville.I was first introduced to Lean process improvement and leadership practices in 2003 at ThedaCare, a healthcare organization in Northeastern Wisconsin. I had the opportunity to learn and apply lean practices both as a member of the improvement office and as an operations leader. Key behavior changes I learned in both roles included using a structured problem-solving approach, developing consistent leadership practices through development of a management system, facilitating teams to achieve their goals, and leading more through coaching others by way of humble inquiry. I have been teaching throughout North America since 2012 on topics such as A3 Thinking, Coaching, Lean Management Systems, Daily Improvement and Coaching Kata, Spreading Improvements, and Deploying and Operationalizing Strategy. i have been serving others as an improvement and leadership consultant, and problem-solving facilitator since 2016, focusing primarily on healthcare and K-12 education. I see every engagement with a client not only as a chance to teach, coach and support others, but also as a learning opportunity for myself. On top of invaluable lessons from each client, some additional professional growth experiences since becoming a full-time coach have been as follows: Learning the social and technical aspects of problem solving and coaching (A3 Thinking) with teacher, coach and mentor Margie Hagene (colleague of John Shook at the Ford Motor Company); Focusing on habitual excellence, principle-based behaviors and real-time problem solving through work with Value Capture, a consultancy founded by former Alcoa CEO and US Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill; Understanding the personal aspect of change, both through master’s study in OCL, but also through partnering with coach Amy Mervak around applying Immunity to Change principles.
