About Mike Nurse
I’m a CPA and advisory services leader with a passion for helping organizations identify risk, respond to challenges, and emerge on solid footing to meet business objectives. Over the past 15+ years, I’ve built a career guiding businesses through operational uncertainty - especially when it comes to fraud, internal control issues and COSO compliance, and organizational and process change and efficiency. I believe that strong advisory relationships aren’t just about solving problems — they’re about building lasting trust and helping people and institutions pull through to a better place. As a partner at Clark Nuber, I’ve created structure and momentum around new service lines, including operational risk management and fraud awareness programs. I strive to build internal trust and departmental cross-collaboration and am passionate about the future of advisory services at Clark Nuber and our industry. At the same time, I’m a lifelong learner and storyteller. I hold an MBA, a BA in Psychology, and a Certificate in Documentary Film Production from the University of Washington. I co-produced a short-form documentary - featured on the University of Washington’s YouTube channel - that has received well over 1 million views. I also served as a radio producer in rural Alaska, creating short educational features and an award winning 50-episode series preserving the stories of Alaska Native elders. In recent years, I’ve been deepening my engagement with Spanish language and various styles of documentary work — not as a professional pivot, but as a personal calling. These pursuits reflect a lifelong interest in language, culture, and story, and continue to inform how I think about communication, connection, and legacy. I’m also passionate about folk, country, and Americana music — especially the storytelling traditions rooted in those genres - and how they intersect with memory, place, and cultural identity.Core Competencies by Focus AreaAdvisory & Risk Strategy– Operational Risk · Fraud Response & Prevention · Internal Controls– Business Transformation · Strategic Planning Leadership & Collaboration– Executive Communication · Change Leadership– One-Firm Alignment · Advisory Initiative LeaderLanguage & Cultural Fluency – Spanish (elementary - in progress) · Cross-Cultural/Indigenous Engagement– Oral History Interviewing and PreservationCreative & Documentary Work– Legacy Storytelling · Rural & LGBTQ+ Voices · Ethics in Documentation– Documentary Film · Radio Production · Folk & Americana Songwriting Traditions
