ABOUT MIKE MODARAI
I began my career as a technologist. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Westminster in London, I worked in programming roles across IBM supporting early VoIP initiatives, HMRC, and the Bank of America trading floor. It was at Bank of America that I first stepped into leadership, not by title but by necessity, identifying gaps in project execution, taking ownership, and delivering results under pressure. That moment shaped how I lead to this day.After moving to Canada, I joined RBC in fraud technology, where I led the development of advanced fraud detection capabilities, including cheque kiting and one of the bank’s first real-time credit card fraud detection systems. Following 9/11, the urgency around financial crime accelerated my move into AML, leveraging the natural linkage between fraud, risk, and technology to help build and modernize critical enterprise systems.Today, I am a transformation, risk, and technology executive with over 20 years of experience leading enterprise-wide change across financial services, regulatory bodies, and capital markets. I bring structure to ambiguity, calm to crisis, and disciplined execution to high-stakes regulatory, operational resilience, and technology transformation initiatives.
