WORK HISTORY
Director @Novus Talent
Reading, GB
The IT industry has to be one of the most exciting and dynamic industries for anyone to work in. A fast-growing market with no sign of slowing down, IT continues to evolve and provide employment for millions of talented people worldwide. To be a sales representative in this market is equally exciting and challenging (mainly caused by the speed of change). The potential rewards are significant.Novus Talent was set up with two overarching goals: to help young people with a passion for technology and an aptitude for selling to get their first foot on the sales ladder; and to help IT companies build and maintain high performing inside sales teams. We want to ensure that the IT industry secures the services of top sales talent, and that this talent is properly enabled and mentored during their early years in sales. Our experience shows that the best place to nurture such talent is in inside sales. Some of the best sales leaders in the IT industry started their career working in inside sales, where they could develop their skills and knowledge and gain enough experience to progress into hybrid or field roles – rather like a sales apprenticeship. We also work with IT organisations across the UK to help them ‘fine tune’ their inside sales teams to ensure they maximize the impact of the function on their business.Whether it is identifying and recruiting great talent, developing their skills, creating incentives or helping to mentor individuals to continually progress with their career or ambitions, Novus Talent can help.Pound for pound, we believe that when companies get this right (recruitment, development, incentives, mentoring) then an inside sales team can be the best performing sales team in any business.
ABOUT MIKE MCSHERRY
Thank you for taking the time to look at my LinkedIn profile. My career development has been diverse, but the experience gathered from all of these roles is what’s made me the leader I am today. From serving in the British Army for a number of years to Operations and Marketing at ICL/Fujitsu Siemens onto Sales leadership positions within the IT market, it has been a fantastic journey. Whilst the roles may have been different, one thing that has never changed throughout are my core values – I believe in giving 100% to any role/activity in which I engage; I will always be honest and loyal and I will work to peoples strengths and do whatever it takes to get the best out of individuals and teams when they show similar commitment. Not everyone is in the right role, but they do have unique strengths I like to find to ensure they are using them to the maximum; for both the individual to develop and for the company to benefit from. My Top 5 Clifton Strengths are as follows:WOO: People with WOO love the challenge of meeting new people and winning them over.Positivity: my nature is to be upbeat, enthusiastic and enjoy getting others excited about what they are about to do.Activator: Describes my desire for action, there can be no hanging around making excuses.Communication: Is how I share my views - through conversation and presenting.Responsibility: Is all about ownership – I am always fully committed to honesty and loyalty. I believe in teamwork and the power of teams working together with a single goal in mind for success. I consider myself competitive too, but not at any cost and within my core values - my biggest frustration is when I see individuals who are not working to their full potential or when I see teams not being supportive of the company goal. I lead by example and never expect anyone to do anything that I would not be prepared to do myself.
