ABOUT MIKE LEWIS
What I am looking for most in my career is the opportunity to contribute and create. I enjoy leading a small team of high achievers in developing products and technologies that make a difference in the world. Contributing to the growth and development of the technical team is very rewarding to me. I provide vision and guidance; the end result however, is the product of the individual contributions and capabilities of each and every team member. I have spent the past 30 years, in the airborne imaging and platform stabilization technology arena. Through this time I have had the good fortune to work with some great (and high caliber) people from many organizations including: MIT-LL, LLNL, NVESD, ARL, JHU-APL, AFRL, JPL, BAE, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, WESCAM, L3-Communications, CRI, GDI, LogosTech, Leonardo, Oceanit, Ball Aerospace, HOSA and many others. It really is a joy to work with and learn from such highly capable people. I put myself through school working in the machine shop at ISTEC making parts for the first generation WESCAM gimbal systems. As an engineer, I helped develop WESCAM’s second, third and fourth generation platform stabilization technologies. I have applied these technologies to support many EO/IR payload development programs including the development of WAPS technology, which I have enjoyed being involved with since the first LLNL flight tests for the MUIR and SONOMA DOE programs. WAPS promises to change surveillance (possibly the world) forever. I have developed several stabilized gimbal products for the military, cinema, and broadcast communities. I have supported these products in the field on many flight test programs, sporting events (including two Olympic games), and even on a film set with Stephen Spielberg. In 2012 I was honored to receive a “Scientific and Engineering Award” from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the “concept, design, and implementation of the Pictorvision Eclipse”. I feel fortunate to have had this diverse set of experiences.
