About Mike Jones
After serving in the Air Force for 6 years I had to make a choice about where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do in the civilian sector. Like most of us, I decided to go to school and figure it all out on Uncle Sam\'s dime. Fortunately, I was presented with an opportunity in Financial Services which opened my eyes to the lack of exposure we have in the service. The truth is that many of us are presented with tools for saving and retirement at the worst of times. We\'re either preoccupied with the stressors of military life or we\'re not in the right mindset due to lack of experience, or let\'s face it our age. Most of us aren\'t thinking about our financial futures in the service, especially those of us who just wanted to do our time and get out. I realized that because of these things we come out on the other side ill-prepared. We may be equipped with sources and information for benefits and the like but who knows where to start? It can be extremely overwhelming. On the other hand, there are many things in place for us that may have been right while we were serving but become inferior to what is available for us and our families in the civilian world. I was surprised to find that my TSP was not serving me the way it should\'ve been. My best interest wasn\'t taken into account when it was set up. I\'ve found that this is the case for most of us, and without the proper education about what is actually going on, it can be detrimental to our plans for the future. But my life insurance policy was exactly what I needed to make sure my family would be okay regardless of what happened to me.right? Converting from SGLI to VGLI there are some major differences to take into account. The main one was the price of coverage if I wanted to keep my worth,(outrageous). Not to mention the lack of coverage for my family which neither have. Getting financially educated on these matters amongst many other things pushed me to once again be at service for the people but this time to serve the men and women who have sacrificed so much already by serving our great country. Helping my fellow servicemen and women grasp hold of financial literacy empowers them to take full control of their lives and give them & their families peace of mind. After all, it costs nothing to get educated, but it could cost everything if we don\'t.
