About Mike Heaton

I am currently employed by the Thomas J Dyer company, and have been with the company since October 2001. My career started out with drawing and coordinating smaller commercial projects and slowly moved up to large scale projects. I have had the privilege of working on such projects as the new Great American Tower, The Bank of Kentucky Center (NKU Arena), multiple university residence halls, multiple large scale commercial projects at the University of Kentucky, and most of the Cincinnati area\'s new hospitals, including the new Mercy West and Christ Hospital. I have worn several hats within the organization, including lead mechanical coordinator, training and development of plumbing/piping project coordinators and Trimble Layout Systems Operators, operating the Trimble layout instrument, the continuous and ongoing improvement of company/department standards, and management of the coordination process on team oriented assigned projects.My current role within the Thomas J Dyer Company is that of Estimation Manager. I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to not only building relationships and working with our current customers, but also establishing new relationships and working with new new customers.

   Assign resources, develop personnel and support and monitor assigned operational functions in an effort to execute the estimating and pre-construction functions, using best practices and standards, to deliver the most favorable outcome while building and maintaining strong relationships with our customers, subcontractors, vendors, internal partners and the owner.• Assist in the implementation of the company’s short and long term strategic plan.• Monitor customers, markets, and performance of future opportunities necessary to recommend strategic options that position the organization for future success.• Support the yearly review of the strategic plan and development of initiatives. • Assign Estimators to projects based on timing, customer requirements, job complexity, and scope.• Coordinate with Coordination/Engineering and Operations to determine best assignment of pre-construction activities following award.• Ensure the proper execution of the Estimating SOP by Estimators• Review estimates as necessary to ensure they incorporate the required amount of cost and margin to be successful• Assist in developing and managing Companywide means and methods/best practices for mechanical and plumbing systems to maximize profit potential of all projects• Management of services Database• Management of “Amend” Data • Assist in negotiation and buy-out of major equipment and subcontractors• When applicable, ensure the proper execution of the Job Set-Up & Budgeting SOP • When necessary, assist Project Managers with Change Order preparation and negotiation • Project Set-up and Estimating Standard Folders – batch file maintenance• Assist the President in the development of Dyer Standard Operating Procedures that apply to assigned responsibilities• Review current SOPs and assist in their modification as required by technological, industry, or internal changes• Assist in implementation and training associated with SOPs
