ABOUT MIKE GUTHRIE

I am a Partner in the Real Estate team based in Edinburgh. I have experience dealing with a wide range of property matters with a particular focus on residential development work. I have a dual role within the housebuilding team advising on the commercial aspects of site acquisition and also running the team who will carry out the sales. On the commercial side, I deal with all aspects of residential development work including: acquisitions, sales to housing associations, funding and site set up. I have particular expertise in setting up large strategic sites ensuring the necessary balance of flexibility to allow the site to be developed over a number of decades, allow sales to other developers and to ensure smooth factoring for the life time of the development. On the sales side, I am our Head of Home Sales and am responsible for the management of a team of 21 who are responsible for selling individual new build properties for a number of active housebuilders across Scotland selling around 2500 homes a year. My role requires me to be involved with a residential development from acquisition all the way through to the sale of the last property. I can therefore bring a holistic approach to every aspect of this work having a thorough understanding of each step within the process together with an appreciation of how all of the steps contribute to the bigger picture.I have recently been accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a Legal Technologist. I am heavily involved with innovation and process improvement within our Firm but I am also available to help clients with their own processes. The residential development market is prime to take advantage of efficiencies brought about through new technology and I am uniquely placed to be able to help clients to realise those opportunities. For the past 6 years, I have also been a tutor on the Conveyancing course as part of the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh. I really enjoy the opportunity to teach the future of the profession and I get the opportunity to educate them now only on the law, but also what happens in practice which will hopefully prepare my students well for a career in real estate.
