ABOUT MIKE EPLEY

I currently work at Epic Systems in Verona, Wisconsin as a Software Developer. I focus on MyChart, an designed for patients who wish to access their health information, communicate with their healthcare providers, schedule appointments, and generally manage their health and wellness. I have about 12 years of Android experience and about 10 years of iOS experience.For the first five years of my career, I worked with a team of talented individuals to design and build, from the ground up, a tablet based application (Android and iOS) for patients admitted to the hospital, called MyChart Bedside. The application provides patients and their family members with access to their medical records, a patient schedule, messaging to clinical care providers, a non-clinical request interface, dining on demand, educational materials, and much more. Our focus was on enhancing the inpatient experience and elevating the level of patient engagement that is possible in the acute care setting.In 2015, I switched teams and started to develop software for Epic\'s MyChart Mobile app, which offers a feature set geared towards a broader set of patients, healthcare settings, and caretaker needs. I manage a team of 13 developers focused on the Mobile app, which in turn surfaced features developed by dozens of additional MyChart developers across the company.MyChart has grown a lot since I joined in 2015. We have more than 300 developers working on new features across a variety of care settings and patient demographics. In terms of development, I still manage a development team that focuses on the MyChart Mobile app, but my work is more narrowly focused on the foundational components - including authentication, security, architecture, and performance.
