ABOUT MICHAEL BAKER

As a Chartered Accountant for over 25 years, specializing in owner managed businesses, I have been on the front line of change for many years. The changes instituted as part of the 2016 Federal Budget convinced me that our clients need more. The effect of the changes were almost immediate and startling as the Canada Revenue Agency began to ask for more information with an increase in CRA\'s budget of almost $500M. Individuals and business owners need assistance organizing their financial affairs in order to maximize efficiency, control and safety. You have \"the right to pay no more (tax). than is required by law.\" Never have more important words have been said with regard to taxation in our country. I have witnessed the power of life insurance which is in my view one of the greatest, if not the greatest, assets that we have at our disposal. The introduction of life insurance in a plan is the foundation and the living benefits are not well understood by many individuals. As R. Nelson Nash said \"if you can control the financial environment that you operate in, it will be the most profitable thing that you can do.\" Many individuals spend up to 30% of their disposable income on interest and 30% on taxes for a total of 60% combined. If you can significantly alter the amount paid on interest and taxes, it will far outweigh the efforts to get a bit more return on the less than 10% that most people save.
