ABOUT MIKAELA K.

Helping others to feel seen, heard, and achieve success has always been something that is extremely important to me. Whether it was being someone\'s partner that usually always was picked last, sitting outside listening to a friend vent, coaching a little girl who loves volleyball and seeing the joy on her face when she accomplished her goal, to assisting a family of 12 who was experiencing homelessness find a place to call home. I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan (yes, a die hard midwest gal, Go Blue!) who loves athletics, lake life, and meaningful relationships. Growing up as a competitive athlete, I devoted majority of my time towards volleyball and golf in pursuit of playing at the next level. Landing a volleyball scholarship at Metropolitan State University of Denver led me out west to begin my adult journey. I was a NCAA athlete from 20••••19 until I medically retired due to injuries, but then transitioned my role to being a student assistant coach for the remainder of my time as an undergrad. Graduated in May of 2021 with my Bachelor\'s degree in Social Work, then to follow I received my Master\'s degree in Social Work a year later in May of 2022. During my time in school working towards my degree, I had a lot of volunteer/work experience involving Denver Human Services, House of Hope which is a women with children homeless shelter, and at a nonprofit as a case manager with people experiencing homelessness in the Denver Metro Area providing resource navigation and housing services. In these roles, I had the challenging task of assisting individuals and families experiencing homelessness towards stability and success. All of these experiences highlighted essential skills that I will need not only in Social Work, but any workplace such as active listening, problem solving, creativity, integrity, team work, time management, etc. Although my background is in Social Work, I am interested in finding a career that still fulfills my desire to make a positive impact. I thrive in a fast-paced environment where I can be creative and part of a team. I am looking to work with a company that fosters a culture of inclusion and support, that believes in work to life balance and that will push me to reach my true potential.
