ABOUT MIKA NIJHAWAN
I am a senior at Tulane University majoring in Economics; I am passionate about data science and economic research. I am particularly interested in researching periods of economic transitions and the embeddedness of social networks in economic systems. I am a member of Newcomb Scholars, a competitive, feminist research cohort, where I have also been named a Harriet Bobo/Endowed Newcomb Scholar. I am a Co-Editor in Chief of NOSTRA, the Newcomb Scholars Literary Magazine, a feminist literary magazine that publishes annual print and digital issues. I am also a Data Research Intern at the Tulane Connolly Alexander Institute for Data Science (CAIDS). Through this role, I have built a strong foundation in feminist data science principles, along with data collection methods, data cleaning, and data visualization processes. CAIDS works with project partners to create interdisciplinary, data-focused digital scholarship. All the projects at CAIDS have a specific social and/or cultural framework; thus at CAIDS, I have been able to work on several data-driven research projects, all with a social focus.
