ABOUT MIKE JONES
Assessing and dealing with the environmental risks of a project is a very complex task. I like making the complex understandable; analysing difficult issues and simplifying them. This can be key when managing resources and developing strategies to enable projects to move forward. In my broad range of environmental experience I have encountered many challenges; from managing the EIA for a new underground train line to Battersea Power Station in London (dense urban environments), drilling boreholes in an icy ex-cold war air base in Poland (communications), driving up mountain ranges in ex-soviet Georgia (remote logistics) to assessing the impacts from mining projects in remote Western Australia (complex environmental constraints). Overcoming these challenges has required organisation, innovation and excellent communication. All projects have the potential to adversely affect the environment. This means that environmental factors should be included in the project decision-making right from the beginning. One of my interests is to be involved in this early stage; helping the whole team to realise a project which is viable and takes advantage of environmental opportunities and constraints. I believe in establishing early communication with stakeholders, including the external regulatory bodies and the internal project team. This is crucial in putting together a successful project and helping clients achieve their objectives.
