I co-founded a student organization at Georgia Tech dedicated to building rockets with the ability to autonomously hover and land safely. This presents a uniquely difficult challenge for our algorithms and electronics, which is part of why I chose to take on the A & GNC (Avionics, Guidance, Navigation, and Controls) Lead role. As A & GNC Lead, I manage a team of approx. 50 fellow students split across three departments - Electronics, Algorithms, and Sensing & Control.Here\'s some of our highlights from the Fall 2024 semester so far- Designed 9 custom PCBs to integrate sensing, communication, and controllers on a UAV that autonomously achieves VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing)- Built custom firmware (C++) on a Teensy microcontroller for adaptive power management, hardware abstraction layers, memory management, communications protocols and interfaces, ISRs, and state-based control- Developed guidance and navigation algorithms for path planning (constrained Bezier curves), state estimation with sensor fusion (extended Kalman Filters), position estimation (ToF triangulation), and LQR control- Prototyped and simulated our flight algorithms on our custom dynamics model (MATLAB/Simulink)
